Boy Scouts are said to be good role models but Carmel's troop 112 can take it to the next level. In boy scouts there are seven ranks that all scouts can achieve. However, these ranks are no small feat to achieve. The scouts have to go through many trials to see if the can ascend to the ranks of the best of the best. This is the eagle scout, a feat which only the most dedicated scouts can achieve; about 96,000 scouts out of the 2.4 million scouts in america.
To get an eagle scout you have to organize and execute a project to help your community. These projects can be anything from organizing a group of people to do a food drive to some simple landscaping to give back to your community. A downside to these eagle projects is not having enough people. This is a big deal due because these protects can take a very long time to complete and can impact the community around them in a very positive way. Troop 112 is the home to three new Eagle Scouts, Bryce Castle, Luke Hamachek, and Sebby Thatcher. All of them used up their time and resources to complete these eagle scout projects. Luke did some landscaping fields behind Carmel elementary school to give back to Carmel Dads’ Club; Bryce's project was a 266 foot long fence to help out a Zionsville church; Sebby made five benches for Nobles of Indiana a nonprofit group for people with working disabilities. These three projects are just some examples of dedication to the scouting ways and their community. “In my eyes,” says Adam Zeitlin “they are just helping out others.” Luckily more people are helping out and that is shown through three Eagle Scouts in one year and more and more scouts attempting eagle scout projects allowing normal people to give back to the community that they love.
